5th Grade is beginning their adventure into Gestures, Aluminum foil sculptures, levels, and cast shadows. Students will us fellow classmates as their model as they gesture movement poses. They will then turn their favorite Gesture into a sculpture using aluminum foil.
4th Grade is working on Book arts; the art of handmade books. We discussed representational art versus non representational and then investigated art to discover its story or meaning. We then discusses themes and brainstormed our own themes. Students then went through magazines and selected images that show their theme.
3rd Grade is working on their color wheel! The are revisiting how to create secondary colors by mixing primary colors. Then we are talking about intermediate colors and how to mix them. When we are finished painting, we will be incorporating what they are learning in the classroom about Rocks/Minerals and Fossils to turn our paintings into one or the other.
2nd Grade is finishing up their paper weavings. We talked about pattern, weaving, careers in art, visual and actual texture, and symbols. We had alot of fun investigating a painting and discussing the difference between actual and visual texture. Then they had the opportunity to apply their knowledge of visual texture in their painting.
1st Grade is working on their ocean scenes. We learned about lines and are using what we learned to create our drawings of things found under the ocean. We then will learn about resists when we paint watercolors over the oil pastels. Finally, we will create our fish using a pattern of different types of lines and add our fish to our drawings.
Kindergarten students just finished their shapes flowers. We talked about he basic geometric shapes and collage. We then created our own flowers using geometric shapes. Lastly we talked about organic shapes and created another flower using organic shapes by tearing the paper. We had ALOT of fun!
